How has your involvement in student organizations/select programs added to your education? :
My involvement in Ohio University Student Equity Management Group (OUSEMG) has been the most formative experience of my college career. In addition to the financial skills I’ve gained through managing $2 million in the stock market, I have also developed my public speaking, business writing, teamwork, and leadership skills.
What is your favorite class in the College of Business? :
My favorite class in the College of Business was mathematical analysis of financial decisions. It allowed me to combine my three favorite topics: finance, mathematics, and computer science. I also learned a lot of useful functions on Microsoft Excel that I now use in other classes and internships.
Which College of Business mentor/faculty/staff member has had a positive influence on your education? :
David Stowe has been a great mentor for me. We both share an interest in the mathematical side of finance. He’s walked me through some of his research and inspired me to dig deep into the technical side of finance in order to really understand how things work.
How has your College of Business experience shaped you as a student? :
My experience has provided me with the opportunity to apply the things I’ve learned in the classroom to real world problems. It has also given me the chance to network with business professionals across many industries, providing me with numerous internship and job opportunities.
Do you feel prepared to enter the workforce?
Absolutely. I have had a lot of hands-on experiences through the College of Business so I feel like I’ll be able to handle anything.
What are your career goals?
After graduation I hope to work at a bank as a quantitative analyst. The position offers the ideal combination of my interests in finance, mathematics, and computer science.
Where is your favorite place to hang out on campus/in Athens? :
When the weather is nice we like to get a blanket and hang out on College Green.
What do you and your friends do for fun on campus?
I really enjoy hiking in Athens and the surrounding areas. I also like to run along the bike path. It’s a beautiful place.
What is your favorite thing to eat on campus/in Athens?
My favorite place to eat is at Bagel Street Deli. Their sandwiches hit the spot for any meal of the day.
What do you like best about living in Athens?
I love the community mindset. Everyone looks out for one another and is always friendly, even to strangers. Athens also looks beautiful in every season.
Why should a prospective student consider Ohio University’s College of Business?
There are so many opportunities to get involved and gain real world experience. I never imagined that I would grow so much in just three years.
