Majors: Accounting and Business Pre-Law

Why did you choose Ohio University? :
My older brother went to Ohio University while I was in high school so I came to campus a few times to visit him. I fell in love with the place and heard they had a good business and accounting program, which fit with my interests.
How did you choose your major(s)? :
My advisors in high school suggested accounting because I was good at math and analytical skills, not to mention there are many career opportunities in accounting. After taking my first course, I realized that I really enjoyed it.
How has your involvement in student organizations/select programs added to your education? :
I’m involved in Beta Alpha Psi, the accounting honors fraternity, and the SOX 404 Fellows Program. Aside from allowing me to build more meaningful friendships and relationships with other students and faculty, they have also helped me find job opportunities for my life after college.
What is your favorite class in the College of Business? :
Financial Accounting and Reporting because of the professors. Dr. Christine Yost and Dr. Esmond-Kiger really take an interest in the students and take time to give feedback students can learn from.
Which College of Business mentor/faculty/staff member has had a positive influence on your education? :
Dr. Christine Yost has had a big impact on my education. I have worked closely with her through Beta Alpha Psi and the SOX 404 Fellow Program, and she is a great mentor. She is really good at letting me do the assignments independently and then giving me advice and feedback when necessary. She is always available for me to ask any questions if I am stuck or need help.
How has your College of Business experience shaped you as a student? :
I am definitely more prepared to handle different situations. For example, when I have a presentation, I try and be proactive and always think about what questions people are going to ask and have answers prepared for them.
Do you feel prepared to enter the workforce?
I do. I am going into auditing and we’ve done a full simulated audit in class so I feel prepared after that. I’ve also gained experience through internships, which has helped me feel more prepared.
What are your career goals?
I’d like to either be a partner at a Big Four accounting firm or have my own smaller firm that operates more locally.
Where is your favorite place to hang out on campus/in Athens? :
I like going to the Strouds Run trails. If it’s really nice then I’ll go to the beach area.
What do you and your friends do for fun on campus?:
We go to a lot of basketball games. We also have a friend in the OHIO Improv group so we go to those shows in the Baker Theatre.
What is your favorite thing to eat on campus/in Athens?
I am currently enjoying Casa Nueva.
What do you like best about living in Athens?
I really like the feel of the community. Court Street is decorated for Christmas right now and it gives the street a really nice vibe.
Why should a prospective student consider Ohio University’s College of Business?
I’ve had a really good experience with the faculty here. If I ever had any issues or wanted to chat, I have always had professors that are available to help me work through them. It’s a very comfortable environment.
