Why did you choose Ohio University? :

We visited for my husband’s medical school interview and I was very impressed with the College of Business. We knew this was where we were supposed to be and we’ve absolutely loved it!

How did you choose your major? :

My mom owns a small business, so business was a regular topic of conversation growing up. She suggested I go into accounting or finance because I’m good with numbers. After taking some introductory courses of each, I found that I really enjoyed finance.

How has your involvement in student organizations added to your education? :

I served as the vice president of professional development for OHIO Women in Business (OWIB). The experience was really rewarding because it created a professional network that I didn’t really get through classes. OWIB has also been a resource for strengthening my professional skills through workshops and networking events.

What is your favorite class in the College of Business? :

I can’t decide! I like lots of classes for different reasons.

Which College of Business mentor/faculty/staff member has had a positive influence on your education? :

Professor Payne is someone who comes to mind right away. I learned a lot from his personal financial planning course that is applicable to my life. I think those types of classes are the most rewarding. He was also helpful in helping me decide between job offers by weighing out differences in salaries, benefits, and overall fit.

How has your College of Business experience shaped you as a student? :

There’s a culture here; everyone works hard to succeed. People are always willing to help each other. I caught onto that quickly and it has motivated me to do my best.

Do you feel prepared to enter the workforce?

Absolutely. The College of Business really focuses on preparing you for the professional world and connecting you with mentors who ease the transition.

What are your career goals?

While I like the idea of progressing to senior management, I also have some desire to create my own business venture. Lately, I’ve been thinking about doing both.

Where is your favorite place to hang out on campus/in Athens? :

Sol or Union Street Diner for brunch on the weekends.

What do you and your friends do for fun on campus?

Anything to do with sports, whether it be playing basketball or racquetball at Ping, or watching a Bobcats game together.

What is your favorite thing to eat on campus/in Athens?

I love Thai Paradise! If you haven’t tried their Island Chicken, do it.

What do you like best about living in Athens?

It’s beautiful, the people are so nice, there’s always something to do, and everything is close!

Why should a prospective student consider Ohio University’s College of Business?

The College of Business provides so many opportunities to develop professionally, and it’s easy to take advantage of what they have to offer. The professors and staff truly want you to succeed and will go out of their way to help. It’s not uncommon to make lasting friendships with other students while working toward your professional goals.
