Book Release: “Sports Business Unplugged: Leadership Challenges from the World of Sports”

Sports business scholar and chair of Ohio University’s Sports Administration Department Norm O’Reilly releases “Sports Business Unplugged: Leadership Challenges from the World of Sports”
Seven years in the making; Norm O’Reilly, Richard P. and Joan S. Fox professor of management and chair of the Department of Sports Administration at Ohio University, and co-author Rick Burton, David B. Falk distinguished professor at Syracuse University, compile 50 of their most recent columns from SportsBusiness Journal into one book, available now online.
“Sports Business Unplugged: Leadership Challenges from the World of Sports” addresses topics including gender equality, corporate sponsorship, collegiate athletics, diversity, and the future of sports.
“This book summarizes more than half a decade of Rick and I writing on topical issues for the leading trade publication in our field. The selected articles are topical, relevant and useful – we believe – to any aspiring sport business professional,” said O’Reilly.
O’Reilly and Burton have been writing columns for SportsBusiness Journal since 2009. This past year – after celebrating their fiftieth column – the co-authors reflected on their work and published a book to reintroduce several challenges of the sports world and how to overcome industry obstacles.
“For me, publishing this book where all proceeds support student scholarships at OHIO and Syracuse, validates the value of our SBJ writing and will help aspiring students in their respective futures,” said O’Reilly.
Published by Syracuse University Press at the time of the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, the book explores current trends and is fitting for students and industry professionals alike.

Norm O’Reilly, Ph.D., is the Richard P. and Joan S. Fox Professor of Business and chair of the Department of Sports Administration at Ohio University. O’Reilly has published seven books and more than ninety peer-review journal articles. Active in industry, he is partner consultant with T1. O’Reilly has been a member of the mission staff for the Canadian Team at three Olympic Games and is deputy chief for the 2016 Canadian Paralympic Team.
