Do you ever wish you could go backward in life, so that you’d do everything right the first time?  Though our students don’t actually want to move in reverse, they do want to “pay it forward” by pointing you in the right direction. Check out the top pieces of advice from Business Bobcats, below.

Best choice she’s made: Getting involved with a student organization she really cares about: OHIO Women in Business.

Why: It’s so important to find a student organization– and we have so many here at the College of Business! The trick is not to just join for the sake of joining, but to find one you can really immerse yourself in. Even though it seems like adding more to your plate would make your life crazy, you really should go beyond the classroom work. The connections you make and skills you learn are worth it.

Other advice: Make those connections. Building a strong skill set is important, but in the end it’s all about the network you create. The College of Business does a great job of helping you build a network, if you’re ready and willing.

Best choice he’s made: Choosing to take advantage of leadership opportunities at the College.

Why: The leadership opportunities here are unbelievable. Being involved makes sure you put what you learn in the classroom into practice, so it’s really important. I’m the Director of Recruitment for the Schey Sales Centre and a leader in my fraternity. I think those roles are almost as important as academics because of all I’ve learned from them.

Best choice she’s made: Choosing the right major for me: sports management.

Why: It’s so important to have a major you really enjoy, because they require a lot of you in the College of Business! If you want to succeed, this is the place to push yourself. The faculty and advisers are great, and you can tell they love what they do. Just listening to my professors talk about the experiences they’ve had in the sports industry, I’m jealous I haven’t started my career already.

Best choice she’s made: Getting to know the College of Business faculty.

Why: Being an international student, it was so helpful to have a strong relationship with my faculty to help me transition not only to college, but also to living in a different country. Dr. Coombs and Dr. Geringer have made a huge influence on my life – sometimes they even feel like my “U.S. dads.” Professors are really great connections to have, and they can become really important in your life in all sorts of ways.

Best choice he’s made: Choosing to take advantage of extracurricular opportunities.

Why: The College of Business has so many great opportunities, but it’s also what you make of those. Nothing will be handed to you on a silver plate, but the student organizations invite you to the dinner. I’ve met people I wouldn’t never been able to meet by just saying “yes” to opportunities that came my way.
