Why did you choose Ohio University? :

That’s a good question. There’s just something about OHIO (other than the great educational programs and career development opportunities) that really drew me in. One visit in the fall and you’re hooked.

How did you choose your major(s)? :

It’s an interesting story. I originally picked marketing from a book of majors my high school guidance counselor gave me. I honestly didn’t know much about marketing or business. When I got to OHIO for orientation, my parents convinced me to switch to undecided so I could explore different types of majors. The university college helped me look into other majors and see a broad spectrum of options. As it turns out I ended up right back in marketing, but I felt much more confident about my decision.

How has your involvement in student organizations/select programs (OUSEMG, Select Leaders, etc.) added to your education? :

My involvement in student organizations has added more to my education than I could ever imagine. As president of the American Marketing Association at OHIO, I get to practice having real-world responsibilities and a leadership role before I graduate. I can show future employers (and myself) that I’m capable of managing a team. Plus the trip to New Orleans in the spring doesn’t hurt.

What experiences have you had with the College of Business Centers of Excellence? :

I recently applied to the Ohio Consumer Research Center, so I haven’t had much experience yet but I’m excited to see what’s ahead!

What kind of real-world experience did you get from your internship? :

I started an ongoing internship in Cincinnati this summer that I’m learning a lot from. I’m responsible for writing bi-weekly blogs and managing social media accounts. Digital marketing is really expanding and I’m glad that I could get the chance to get some experience. Besides actual marketing skills, I’m learning how to manage projects and be professional in the workplace.

What is your favorite class in the College of Business? :

My favorite class so far would have to be BA 1100 Introduction to Business. Even though it was just an intro class, it made me realize that I was in the right place and marketing was what I wanted to study. It gave me validation about my choice for my major.

Which College of Business mentor/faculty/staff member has had a positive influence on your education? :

There are so many people who work at Ohio University that helped me along the way. Specifically in the College of Business, Dr. Childers and Dr. Agnihotri had such a great influence on my education. Dr. Childers, the advisor for AMA, cares so much about our organization and does everything she can to make it and us succeed. My academic advisor, Dr. Agnihotri, has encouraged me to push myself in my education and offers me opportunities I never would have otherwise.

How has your College of Business experience shaped you as a student? :

When I came to college I was nervous. I wanted clear direction and structure and teachers to tell me exactly what to do. But that wasn’t what I needed. Not everything in life is clearly defined and laid out. I learned to grow as a student and to trust my own instincts and opinions. I learned to be confident and assert myself during projects and assignments.

Do you feel prepared to enter the workforce? :

Well, I still have a year and a half to get ready for the workforce, but yes I would say I feel more confident in my skills than I ever have. If I left right now I could probably manage, but I think I’ll stay and learn a little more.

What are your career goals? :

Like I said, I still have a year and a half to go. I’m hoping that my experiences this summer and next year will help me decide where I want to be after college. Right now, my goal is to have a job so I can justify buying all those blazers.

Where is your favorite place to hang out on campus/in Athens? :

I feel like I spend all my time in Copeland or Baker Center.

What do you and your friends do for fun on campus? :

Our favorite thing to do was craft night at Baker Center on Thursday nights. We went every week and always came back with a new decoration for our dorm room. You got in for free and it was fun to see what other Bobcats were making.

What is your favorite thing to eat on campus/in Athens? :

Definitely Wings Over Athens. Arguably better than Buffalo Wild Wings, plus they deliver! I suggest honey BBQ.

What do you like best about living in Athens? :

The view. Athens is a gorgeous city.

Why should a prospective student consider Ohio University’s College of Business? :

Ohio University’s College of Business will do everything they can to help you succeed. If you want it, they’ll help you do it. There will always be a student or professor to help you start a new club, or start your homework. There are so many opportunities at the College of Business that it’s hard not to be involved in a club or an exciting new program. You’ll gain so much experience and be given so many opportunities to succeed.
