Being a freshman brings up so many questions. We’re giving you the answers to the ones our student success advisers hear most.
Between remembering your shower caddy and navigating campus, it’s hard being a freshman. That’s why we’re anticipating your questions—and giving you the answers before you have to ask.
Q: What should I remember to bring to campus?
A: Besides shower shoes and your new Bobcat apparel, remember to bring the OHIO Guide, which you should have received at Bobcat Student Orientation. Everything freshmen need to know can be found in those 88 pages.
Q: What’s the deal with advising?
A: The College of Business offers two types of advising: small group advising and individual advising.
Watch your email for small group advising dates and times—there is one session in fall and another in spring.
You can schedule a one-on-one appointment with your adviser at any time by calling Student Services at 740-593-2042. Or, simply stop into Copeland 214 during drop-in hours Monday through Friday, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Q: Picking a major seems overwhelming. How do I decide?
A: There are a few key resources to help you. First and foremost: your adviser. Stop into student services or the Office of Career Management in Copeland 214 to discuss your options. There’s also a website that Ebony Porter, student success adviser, loves to direct major-less students to. Explore the site here. Lastly, information about business majors is available on the College of Business website.
Q: How do I get involved?
A: OHIO has an entire center dedicated to helping you find your niche(s) on campus. Visit the Campus Involvement Center in Baker University Center 355 & 339, or browse our 493 student organizations online.
Interested solely in College of Business student organizations? Learn more about them online, or contact the Office of Career Management for help.
Q: Where can I get all of my financial aid questions answered?
A: All students have an assigned financial aid counselor based on their last name. Look up your counselor online, or stop into Chubb Hall 020 for more information.
