Two Masters of Sports Administration Graduate Programs Named Best in the World

Ohio University’s Masters of Sports Administration took top honors in SportBusinessInternational’s 2015 review of programs. The Master of Sports Administration (MSA) was named the best postgraduate sports course in the world and Professional Master of Sports Administration (PMSA) was named the best online postgraduate sports course in the world.

“Ohio University’s sports administration program is built on a 50-year legacy of academic excellence,” said Dr. Norm O’Reilly, chair of the Department of Sports Administration and Richard and Joan Fox Professor of Business at Ohio University’s College of Business. “Our program has been consistently recognized for excellence. We’ve done exceptionally well in the SportBusiness International rankings since the launch four years ago. We believe this latest ranking is a testament to the continued strength of our program, our response to increasing competition, and growth in our field.”

SportBusiness International ranks programs on varied measures including employment statistics following graduation, student satisfaction, demographic makeup of the class, average salary three years after graduation, quality of teaching, and quality of alumni support.

The MSA was named best in the world in 2012, 2013, and 2015. The PMSA was named best in the world in 2014 and 2015.

“We are incredibly proud to have a program that pioneered sports education and is consistently recognized as the best in its field," said Dr. Hugh Sherman, dean of the College of Business. “We have an extensive network of Bobcat alumni working in the field that give back with time and expertise that adds to the richness of the program for current and future students.”

Ohio University also took honors in these areas:

  • First as Graduates’ Choice
  • First in Average Salary for Graduates
  • Second in Professors’ Choice
  • Second in Peer Review for Best Undergraduate Sports Management Course Providers

“Our curriculum allows professionals to expand and apply their existing knowledge of the sports industry, and prepares them for the next step in their career,” said O’Reilly. “We position students for success by combining sport-specific knowledge and business acumen. That’s why 85 percent of our alumni hold key leadership positions in the industry.”
