Ranked No. 1 in the world… Again.

Thursday, August 3 2017 12:00am

Ohio University’s Master of Sports Administration program tops SportBusiness International’s postgraduate sports management course ranking for the fifth time in six years.

For the third consecutive year, Ohio University’s Master of Sports Administration program has been named the best postgraduate sports management program in the world, according to SportBusiness International.

“The MSA program continues to lead the way in graduate-level sports business education,” said Hugh Sherman, dean of OHIO’s College of Business. “Our faculty partner with industry leaders and alumni to create practical learning experiences that prepare our students with the skill sets needed to standout after graduation.”

The SportBusiness International Postgraduate Sports Course Ranking is based on student satisfaction, graduates’ full-time employment, and the program’s reputation amongst sports management academic professionals. This year, OHIO’s MSA program also ranked first in alumni choice; a tight-knit community that Bobcats know well.

“Our history is long, our brand is strong and our alumni network is even stronger,” said Norm O’Reilly, Fox Professor of Business and chair of the Department of Sports Administration at Ohio University. “We provide our exceptional graduate students with a tremendous platform to enter the industry through our curriculum, hands-on learning, the activities of our AECOM Center for Sports Administration, and the support of an incredible, growing alumni network that is eager to help our graduates find their dream job.”

Housed in a nationally-ranked, AACSB-accredited college of business, OHIO’s MSA degree is combined with a one-year MBA program to prepare students for cross functional roles within the sports industry. In fact, more than 85 percent of OHIO’s 1,400 MSA graduates hold leadership positions within intercollegiate athletics, professional sports, media, facility management, and sponsorship. And, there are more collegiate Football Bowl Subdivision athletic directors that have graduate with an MSA degree from OHIO than any other graduate-level sports management program.

“Our students don’t have to choose between a holistic MBA or globally-focused MSA degree,” said O’Reilly. “In our dual-degree program, students develop the hard and soft skills needed to become leaders in whichever career path they choose.”

OHIO’s MSA is revered as the oldest and top-ranked sports business program in the world, and it’s clear that there are no plans to slow down.

“To be ranked No. 1 for five of the past six years is validation for the work that we do, the strength of our faculty, and the history of our program,” said O’Reilly. “We were the first academic graduate degree in sports management and remain the best.”
