Student Activities

Outside of the classroom, our students are encouraged to participate in international and cross-cultural experiences through our Center for International Business.

Global Consulting Program

Prepare yourself for the challenges of the global business environment you will encounter upon graduation by working in a cross-cultural consulting team to solve authentic business problems abroad during the Global Consulting Program (GCP).

Choose from among 13 exciting locations, each with its own rich cultural heritage and unique opportunities for hands-on learning in a global business context.

  • Applied business experience: Put your business skills to work providing solutions to complex problems for local and multinational clients. Working with a real company challenges you to integrate your business skills and bring about positive change.
  • Cross-cultural immersion: Engage with your student peers abroad as colleagues, classmates, and friends as you explore the distinctive culture of your chosen location. Each site offers unique excursions that will enrich your cross-cultural experience.
  • Global business leadership skills development: Gain valuable, career-building experience as you work in multicultural teams. Experience in cross-cultural communication and management is a must in today’s global business environment.

My favorite experience at Ohio University was the Global Consulting Program. I grew and learned so much during the two weeks in France. I developed a more refined professional personality, gained a lot of autonomy, and became more independent. It's one of my favorite talking points when talking to prospective students as a Student Ambassador. I highly recommend the experience to them and tell them about my amazing time abroad. I also believe that GCP gave me a leg up as far as getting an interview for an internship since it provides real life experience and cultural empathy.

OHIO International Consulting Program

The OHIO International Consulting Program provides students with significant hands-on experience that enables you to integrate theoretical and practical training in the process of analyzing and solving a significant business problem.  You will have the opportunity to work with companies like Honda, Smucker’s, Cardinal Health, Rocky, and Preformed Line Products.

As part of this program, you will be placed on a team of students for an eight- to 12-week consulting project with a host organization with operations in Ohio. You’ll work in culturally diverse consulting teams with a mix of U.S. and international students. At least two nationalities are represented on each

student team, and may have up to four nationalities represented. The interactions that happen during this project will provide you with an in-depth experience similar to that found when working in multinational corporations, facilitating the development of international and cross-cultural management skills that enhance personal and career performance.

To enhance project quality and student learning, each consulting team is coached by an experienced faculty member from Ohio University’s College of Business. The participating client organizations receive an action-oriented report that includes relevant analysis and practical recommendations, similar to what a paid consultant might provide.

OICP [OHIO International Consulting Program] was the most challenging, yet the most useful, academic experience I have ever had. The program gives you interaction with a live client and requires you to apply what you have learned in the classroom to a real-world situation. You will have the chance to network with faculty and members of the company you are working with. OICP requires you to invest yourself and time into the project which, with the guidance of the faculty, will result in a professional deliverable. It is a challenge, but in the process you will learn a lot about the cultures of teammates and more importantly, you will learn a lot about what you can offer to an employer in the future.
