Joshua Casto serves as director of marketing and communications for Ohio University’s College of Business and brings more than a decade of experience to the position. He is passionate about his profession and the important role it plays in higher education.
Josh started his career as a marketing intern with the Jackson Herald in Ripley, West Virginia. There, he earned multiple advertising awards from the WV Press Association. After completing his term as president of WV DECA, an association of marketing students, Josh moved to Denver, Colorado, where he worked for several PR and marketing firms including Thomas Taber & Drazen (now Gyro) while attending Johnson & Wales University.
After graduating from JWU as student body president, Josh began work for the campus in the area of marketing and communications, helping generate awareness, enrollment, and goodwill for JWU throughout Colorado and the west. During his time with the president’s office and institutional advancement, he also supported the rebranding of Johnson & Wales and the launch of the university’s new website. While working at JWU, Josh completed his MBA in marketing at Regis University.
Josh then worked with the JWU Denver Campus’ Experiential Education & Career Services team to build and maintain relationships with more than 500 employers to promote career events, online job postings, and on-campus recruitment activities to students and alumni.
In 2012, Josh joined a fellow JWU alumnus to launch The Center for Work Ethic Development, a start-up organization dedicated to the training and development of secondary and post-secondary students. There, he was responsible for the planning and execution of national marketing and communications strategies including organizational branding, online and social media development, event sponsorships, and public relations.
Prior to Ohio University, Josh also worked with the College of Business at Colorado State University. As a part of the marketing and communications department, he was responsible for leading and collaborating with teams across campus to enhance and expand graduate business program marketing and recruitment efforts throughout the United States, including advertising one of the largest MBA programs in the country. During that time, Josh was awarded a distinguished alumni award from Johnson & Wales University.
In his current roles, Josh serves as the brand champion of OHIO’s College of Business. He is responsible for articulating the College’s brand, leading undergraduate enrollment strategies, and leading marketing efforts for graduate students. In addition to leading the COB marketing and communications team, Josh works with his team to engage and communicate with various internal and external constituents including alumni.
Josh and his partner, John, now live in Athens, Ohio. As self-proclaimed foodies, they enjoy traveling and international cuisine, trying new local restaurants, and finding new recipes to cook at home.
