Angelina Moore Women In Business Moore 004 ErName: Angelina Moore

Major(s): Business Pre-Law, Honors Tutorial College

Minor(s) or Certificate(s): Law, Justice & Culture

Class year: 2016

Why did you choose Ohio University? :

I knew I wanted to major in Business Pre-law and knew that Ohio University’s College of Business had a great program. I really encourage people to come visit OHIO. Visiting really solidified my decision. If you visit and don’t like it, you miss out on one day, but if you don’t visit, you could miss out on the best four years of your life.

How did you choose your major(s)? :

I’ve known I wanted to be a lawyer all throughout high school. My high school guidance counselor recommended that I focus not just on general pre-law, but to choose a program that focuses more on the kind of law I want to do. I was really interested in business law, so it was a perfect fit.

How has your involvement in student organizations/select programs (OUSEMG, Select Leaders, etc.) added to your education? :

It’s really helped me make OHIO my home. When I was a freshman, I wasn’t sure what to join, and I didn’t want to overwhelm myself. That first semester was kind of a struggle. After that, I went out and joined student organizations that I was interested in, and it really helped me to own my college experience. It’s why I love OHIO so much.

One of my favorite extracurricular activities is being the Vice President of Philanthropy for OHIO Women in Business, an organization one of my friends started two years ago. I got involved right away and really love what the organization stands for.

What is your favorite class in the College of Business?:

I’ve been a teacher’s assistant for the freshman BA2000 class for a year now, and love it. Even though I’m not technically in the class, I learn something every time. The class teaches freshmen about resume tips, how to approach employers, and how to conduct themselves as professionals. We’ve even had guests like recruiters and someone from LinkedIn.

Which College of Business mentor/faculty/staff member has had a positive influence on your education? :

Dr. Frost is my director of studies, so I’ve known him since I was a senior in high school. He’s been instrumental in my entire college process. He’s always willing to help, and if he doesn’t know something, he directs me to someone who does.

How has your College of Business experience shaped you as a student? :

It sounds cliché, but the College of Business is a big family. Plus, there are just so many opportunities in the College. My job, thesis advisor, and mentor are all in the College of Business – and they’ve given me the advice and friendship I was really looking for at college.

Do you feel prepared to enter the workforce?

Yes. That’s something I really appreciate about the College: their emphasis on preparing you for life after college.

What are your career goals?

The plan is to go to law school. I’m not sure where yet, but am looking to major in employment or business law. I eventually want to work as in-house counsel for a company.

Where is your favorite place to hang out on campus/in Athens? :

I like College Green a lot. There are lots of benches, Copeland Hall is right across the street, and you always run into people. It’s a great atmosphere.

What do you and your friends do for fun on campus?

Freshman year we went to Midnight Madness, an improvisation show put on by theater arts students. Now, it’s more about exploring Athens and trying to soak it all up before we leave.

What is your favorite thing to eat on campus/in Athens?

My favorite place to eat in Athens is Zoe. They have amazing food and cocktails at fairly reasonable prices, and it just has a great atmosphere.

What do you like best about living in Athens?

There’s a certain atmosphere at OHIO that you really just don’t get at other campuses. That’s something I really looked for in a college – that energy – it’s contagious. It really feels like a community. I think it’s because when students come there, they stay.

Why should a prospective student consider Ohio University’s College of Business?

Not only are we nationally ranked, but there are so many opportunities here. The College really tries to help their students; they have advising sessions to figure out your schedule, professors care about you. I’m so glad I found OHIO, and I hope other students can find it as they are looking for schools, too.
