College of Business senior Taylor Tatman shares her thoughts on her four years in Athens and why she always knew she'd be a Bobcat.
Name: Taylor Tatman
Majors: Management Information Systems (MIS), Management & Strategic Leadership with a Human Resource Management concentration
Class year: 2016
Why did you choose Ohio University? :
I come from a long family line of Ohio University graduates so I joke that I was a Bobcat from birth. This was the only school I wanted to attend.
How did you choose your majors? :
I’m interested in consulting and I found out there are a lot of opportunities to explore that field in MIS. I wanted to incorporate human resources because it allows for a direct impact on employees; I want to assist people with career development and have an impact on company culture.
How has your involvement in student organizations/select programs added to your education? :
Being involved in different organizations has really helped my networking skills. I’ve been able to meet and learn from different professionals through various talks and trips sponsored by the College of Business. I have also gained valuable time management and leadership skills.
What is your favorite class in the College of Business? :
I really liked my organizational behavior class because of how Dr. Holbrook taught. For one assignment, we had to walk down Court Street five times, stare into the eyes of everyone we passed, and observe their reactions. I appreciated the way he thought differently about how to teach the class.
How has your College of Business experience shaped you as a student? :
College of Business students are fortunate to have a lot of interaction with faculty members. They help guide students towards different opportunities to help them grow in a ways you don’t get from other faculties or universities.
Do you feel prepared to enter the workforce? :
Yes, I do! Through the College of Business I’ve had three internships. After graduation, I will be working for Deloitte, who I interned for. My internship gave me an idea of the company culture and what to expect when I start.
What are your career goals? :
I don’t have a set long-term plan. I’m excited to work at Deloitte, and hope to learn more about my interests while I’m there.
Where is your favorite place to hang out on campus/in Athens? :
My friends and I tend to just hang out at each other’s houses.
What do you and your friends do for fun on campus? :
We like to play basketball at Ping. We also try to take advantage of all the cool things happening on campus, like improv nights and sporting events.
What is your favorite thing to eat on campus/in Athens? :
Whenever I go out to eat, I want Gran Ranchero.
What do you like best about living in Athens? :
I love the feel of it all. Everyone is always so nice and friendly.
Why should a prospective student consider Ohio University’s College of Business? :
There are many reasons to join the College of Business. The experience in the classroom is great but the opportunities outside the classroom are invaluable. The interaction with faculty members is something that is unique to the College.
