DBSBF welcomes alumni panelists to discuss sports revenue generation and events and operations
Join us on for the annual Sports Speaker Series at the Darren Butler Sports Business Forum. The Ohio University Department of Sports Management will host the Sports Speaker Series on September 22 at 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. in the Baker Center Ballroom.
All faculty, staff, and students are welcome to attend. The program will conclude with the presentation of the 2017 Distinguished Alumni Award.

Kyle Daugherty, MSA'10
Oklahoma City Dodgers
Kyle Daugherty has been with the Oklahoma City Dodgers since November of 2010. Kyle Daugherty started as a Group Sales Coordinator before moving into an outside sales role, eventually becoming the Manager of Business Development. After three seasons of managing the outside sales team including one season as the Director of Business Development, he was promoted into his current role of Vice President, Ticket Sales in October of 2016.
Kyle Daugherty is responsible for leading all ticket sales efforts for Dodgers and has been a part of the tremendous turnaround that the franchise has seen since 2010.
Prior to moving to OKC, Kyle Daugherty earned his Master of Business Administration and Master of Sports Administration from Ohio University after receiving a B.S. in Business Administration from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO. Kyle Daugherty enjoys spending his free time with his wife Lyndsey and their two sons Jackson and Oliver.
Maggie Valerio, BSS'15
Hornets Sports & Entertainment
Maggie Valerio joined Hornets Sports & Entertainment in October of 2016 as the Coordinator of Corporate Social Responsibility, where she led the team’s Hunger, Wellness and Education initiatives. In June of 2017 she transitioned to Corporate Partnership Activation. In her new role, Valerio serves as an Account Manager for several key partners, including Novant Health, Kia, and Barings. Prior to joining the Hornets, Maggie Valerio began her career at GMR Marketing, working on clients such as HBO and Proctor & Gamble’s Thank You, Mom program for the Rio 2016 Olympics. Maggie Valerio is originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Sports Administration, with a minor in Business, from Ohio University.
Michael Morrow, BSS'00/MSA'02
Michael Morrow is a triple Bobcat and was a member of the inaugural MBA/MSA program in 2001-2002. During his time at Ohio University, Michael Morrow interned at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway as well as the San Jose Sharks. Following graduation, Michael Morrow moved to Tampa to work in sales for the Tampa Bay Lightning. The next step of his career took him to Anaheim with the Ducks where he spent the next 10 years of his career. After leading the sales and retention efforts with the Ducks, Michael Morrow had an opportunity to move to Denver to work with KSE and the Denver Nuggets for three plus seasons. In December 2015, Michael Morrow moved back to Orange County, California to become the COO of AutoProcessor. AutoProcessor is a software company that is the real-time technology that integrates with all the ticketing companies and marketplaces. Michael Morrow is married and lives in Yorba Linda, California with his wife Christina and Great Dane Brownie.

Jessica Martin, BSS'08
Rising Star Sports Ranch Resort & Eureka Casino
Jessica Martin is the Director of Sports and Events at Rising Star Sports Ranch & Eureka Casino Resort in Mesquite, NV. She is responsible for cultivating relationships with existing and new camp and tournament operators by helping shape their vision to create a one-of-a-kind experience for their athletes, teams, and families.
Prior to working with the Sports Ranch, Jessica Martin worked for NCSA as a Head Scout, helping high school athletes get recruited to play intercollegiate athletics. Prior to moving to Nevada, she managed an inside sales team specializing in working with high school athletic directors at Huddle, Inc. (Atlanta, GA), and sold sponsorships for the Thundering Herd IMG Sports Property (Huntington, WV).
Jessica Martin is a proud Bobcat, playing intercollegiate field hockey at Ohio University while completing her bachelor’s degree in Sports Management in 2008. She continued her post graduate education in the Ohio University Sports Administration program, receiving her MBA/MSA in 2011.
Justin Hunt, MSA'10
Justin Hunt is a licensed attorney, certified NFL sports agent, and author of From Mascot To Agent And Everything In Between. Prior to becoming certified as an NFL agent, Justin Hunt worked in the San Francisco 49ers' front office as a salary cap administrator following the 2011 NFL Lockout. Justin Hunt obtained his B.B.A. in Finance (2006) and M.S.A. in Sports Administration (2010) from Ohio University. He received his law degree (2009) from Capital University and is authorized to practice law in Ohio. His book, like his career, focuses on relationships and networking to lead a successful career.
Corey Poches, BSS'10
Corey Poches is the Strategic Partnerships Director for CivitasNow, an experiential marketing company based in Columbus, Ohio. He works with CivitasNow’s brand partners to build and activate communities. Some of the company's world-class partners include: Major League Soccer, Amazon, and Express, among many others.
After starting his career contributing to business development efforts for the Cleveland Cavaliers and Columbus Blue Jackets, Corey Poches transitioned to the agency side via Marketing Activations Group, Octagon, and AGAR, where he last served as Director of New Business Development before joining CivitasNow. In Corey Poches's more than seven years working in the experiential marketing space, he has managed programs on behalf of BMW, Pepsi, P&G, and Lexus, to name a few. Corey Poches's most specific expertise lies in sports marketing and sponsorship activation, having worked with such major organizations as Major League Baseball, Dew Tour: Skate + Snow Events, and Red Bull Global Rallycross.
Corey Poches holds a BA/BS in Marketing and Sports Management, and a Master’s of Sports Administration from Ohio University. He also currently serves on the undergraduate advisory board for the Sports Management program at Ohio University.

Dell Robinson, BSPE'88
2017 Distinguished Alumni Award Recepient
Dell Robinson earned his B.S. in Physical Education from Ohio University and his M.S. in Sports Administration from Iowa State University. Prior to joining Spelman Johnson, Dell Robinson most recently served as Commissioner of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
During a span of 25 years Dell Robinson has served as the Associate Commissioner of Legislation and Governance at the Mid-American Conference, Assistant Commissioner for Compliance at the Western Athletic Conference, and Director of Compliance and Enforcement at the Southwestern Athletic Conference. Dell Robinson served as the Vice Chair of the Division II Collegiate Commissioner Association. Dell has also served as the Chair of the NCAA Division II Football Committee. Dell Robinson is a member of the Ohio University College of Business Executive Advisory Board, as well as a member of the John McLendon Minority Scholarship Foundation Board. He served two terms as Chair of the Ohio University National Alumni Association and was honored with the Ohio University Distinguished Service Award. Dell Robinson is presently a member of the Ohio University Board of Trustees.
Doug Dawson, BSS'96

Doug Dawson is currently the Vice President, Ticket Sales & Service for the Dallas Cowboys. Doug Dawson is responsible for overseeing the sale and service of seat options, club seats, and season tickets for the Dallas Cowboys and AT&T Stadium. Prior to the Cowboys, Doug Dawson was at the Indiana Pacers where he spent 4 ½ years as the Vice President of ticket Sales and Service. Doug Dawson began his career in the sports industry with Palace Sports and Entertainment, which was the parent company for the Detroit Pistons, Detroit Shock Detroit Vipers, Pine Knob Music Theater and Meadowbrook Music Festival. During the last 20 years, Doug Dawson also spent time in a variety of roles in ticket sales for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Tampa Bay Lightning and Cleveland Cavalier. Doug Dawson graduated from Ohio University in 1996 with a Bachelor’s of Sport Science Degree.
