Registration is now open for the TechGROWTH Tenth Anniversary Innovation Celebration, an event highlighting the impact of regional entrepreneurship. The celebration, which coincides with the tenth anniversaries of both the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs and TechGROWTH Ohio, will take place from 5:30-7 p.m. Nov. 28 in Walter Hall Rotunda.
TechGROWTH Ohio is a $52 million public-private partnership comprised of the Ohio Third Frontier program, Ohio University, and the private investment community. A premier program of the Voinovich School, TechGROWTH Ohio provides intensive professional services and seed-stage investment capital to technology startups and entrepreneurs in the 20-county southeastern Ohio area.
The Innovation Celebration will feature TechGROWTH’s accomplishments over the last 10 years, including providing services and investments to help companies in southeast Ohio generate more than $380 in economic activity. More than 1,700 entrepreneurs have been engaged by TechGROWTH since its founding in 2007, with nearly $48 million raised for clients over the past five years in the form of seed, angel and venture funding, along with service contributions.
“Our proven results continue to demonstrate the significant contribution TechGROWTH and our client companies make to the economy in southeastern Ohio. For every $1 of state money invested in TechGROWTH, these companies generate $18 in economic activity,” Lynn Gellermann, TechGROWTH executive director, said.
TechGROWTH Ohio and the Voinovich School’s other entrepreneurship activities reflect Ohio University’s strong commitment to economic development and helping the public benefit from new knowledge and innovations. In all, TechGROWTH and Voinovich School programs have contributed more than $1.8 billion in economic impact to the region since 2012.
Developed from this track record of success, the Center for Entrepreneurship, a collaboration between the Voinovich School and Ohio University’s College of Business, received the 2017 Deshpande Symposium Award for Excellence in Student Engagement and Entrepreneurship from the Deshpande Foundation. Other successful initiatives spawned from TechGROWTH Ohio include I-Corps@Ohio, the Social Enterprise Ecosystem, Dare to Dream high school pitch competition, the Ohio Innovation Fund partnership with The Ohio State University and Kent State University and many more.
The Innovation Celebration will salute the accomplishments of the last 10 years and the entrepreneurship and innovation still to come. The event is a chance for TechGROWTH Ohio to celebrate its anniversary with the many entrepreneurs, stakeholders and partners who made those accomplishments possible.
