MAcc Bobcat Q&A: Keegan Bollenbacher
By: Taylor Uden
Name: Keegan Bollenbacher
Program: Ohio University's Master of Accountancy
Undergraduate Institution: Ohio University
Hometown: Huron, Ohio
Why did you choose Ohio University's MAcc program?
I wanted to further my knowledge in the accounting field before I begin my career, and this was most efficient way for me to achieve this while reaching the 150-credit hour requirement to sit for the CPA exam.
What are you most looking forward to this year?
To develop stronger relationships with the accounting faculty and applying some of the concepts I learned from undergrad at the graduate level.
What was your favorite MAcc class and why?
Forensic Accounting because it is a unique field of accounting that deals with fraud and white-collar crime. In the class, we have had the privilege of conducting our own fraud risk assessment on a company.
What has been the most difficult part of your transition into graduate school?
The classes are only half a semester long, but the workload is based on an entire semester. Trying to stay ahead on readings and understanding the concepts because of how quickly we transition has been a big transition for me.
What would you tell someone considering Ohio University's Master of Accountancy program?
I would highly recommend the program if you are someone interested in getting your CPA and are looking for additional classes to get 150 credit hours. Having a graduate degree is very appealing on a resume.
What are your career goals? How did you figure out what you wanted to do?
I want to go into public accounting and become an auditor. And then eventually, I would like to become a partner in a firm. I have had the opportunity to hear from many accounting professionals through Beta Alpha Psi, our accounting fraternity. Hearing from them has helped me realize that this is the field I want to pursue.
Where is your favorite place to hang out on campus/in Athens?
Cats Corner on Union Street.
