Applying to graduate school can seem like a daunting process, but Ohio University's admissions team is here to help you. The team will support you through your journey – from finding the right master’s program to submitting your application. We’ve gathered a few tips to get you started and guide you towards submitting your best application.

1. Don’t let the GMAT or GRE scare you.

While both tests provide useful information about an applicant’s capabilities, they are just one piece of the comprehensive application. It’s important to understand that when an applicant applies, all pieces are considered. If you don’t score as high as you would like, spend some time perfecting your personal statement and showing who you are through that piece.

2. Do your research.

Look at the program’s website and social media channels to get a better understanding and feel for the program. Know how big your cohort will be, if there are graduate assistant opportunities, and what extracurricular or professional development opportunities will be available to you during your studies.

3. Look at the program’s curriculum.

Make sure that the curriculum offers classes you are interested in, as well as classes that will help you obtain the skills you need. See if the program allows you to take electives or a concentration of your choosing.

4. Reach out to the program’s admissions team with questions.

After doing your research, reach out to the program’s admission team with any questions you might have. The admissions team knows the program best and can give you the answers you need to make the right choice on graduate school.

5. Know why you want your graduate degree.

Take the time to think about why you are pursuing a graduate-level degree and how your degree will help you in the future. Think about your career path and how graduate school will play into your plan and help you achieve your goals.

6. Get excited about your program.

Graduate school will simultaneously be challenging and rewarding. It is an incredible opportunity to not only further your education but become a master in that subject. Be proud of what you have already accomplished and excited for what's to come!
