Our Business Bobcat alumni share their stories about how the college impacted their career journeys. This week, we connected with Michelle Patella, founder and CEO of Michelle Patella LLC.

Ohio University College of Business alumna Michelle Patella (‘07) founded her own company, Michelle Patella LLC, where she provides services relating to mindfulness, emotional intelligence, and design thinking. She enjoys the flexibility that her job provides along with the ability to see clients grow and develop through treatment.

“Creating space and providing tools for personal growth and transformation has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life,” she said.

But she started off on a completely different path, in finance, after leaving OHIO. Among the several extracurricular activities Patella participated in through the college, College of Business Connect may have benefited her the most. She met OHIO alumnus Jason Gies at a golf outing for the club, and they hit it off. He recommended her for an analyst position at JPMorgan Chase Private Bank in Manhattan, NY.

“I’m extremely grateful,” Patella said. “Not only did he help me get the interview, he put me in touch with fellow Bobcats who also worked at the bank. They all helped me prepare for my interview and mentored me once I secured my role there.”

Patella says that the business cluster prepared her for the position by teaching her about personal branding, networking, and communicating on teams. It motivated her to double major in Finance and Business Pre-Law.

“I believe in the programming and methodology utilized by the College of Business,” she said. “I think it perfectly blends traditional academic programming with real-world experience which sets up students for extraordinary success.”

Patella want to tell current business bobcats — “Never give up! Be persistent and dream big."
