Class year: 2020

Our 2018-19 College of Business Ambassadors share stories about how the college has supported them throughout their academic journey. This week, we connected with Brody Gilliand, a first-year ambassador.

Brody Gilliand pursues management and marketing at Ohio University because he has a passion for leadership and enjoys the creative side of advertising. He’s enjoyed his experience so far.

“The College of Business has given me so much passion for my school work,” he said. “It has allowed me to do many things and open up endless possibilities.”

Being a student ambassador for OHIO College of Business isn’t his first time in the role. He has supported students as an ambassador at a community college he attended while in still high school.

“I just loved it,” Gilliand said. “I knew I would feel the same way about doing it here.”

Gilliand hopes to help prospective students solidify their commitment to Ohio University and make their first few months in Athens memorable.

While navigating college, he wants freshmen to keep some words by Jim Rohn in mind: "You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with."

“Surround yourself with people that are going to make you better,” Gilliand said. “When you find these people, make sure you build great relationships with them. Get involved in student organizations to meet respectable peers. There is so much experience and knowledge gained from these groups.”

Below, Brody Gilliand answers a few questions relating to his experiences on campus:

What extracurricular activities do you participate in?

I’m in the Ralph and Luci Schey Sales Centre as director of onboarding so I’m lucky enough to gain real world leadership experience while in school. I also participate in Select Leaders!

What is one fun fact about you?

I race dirt bikes!

What’s your favorite spot on campus to study?

4th floor Alden Library! Even though it’s a really busy spot, there’s just something about being surrounded by tons of other students studying and working that gives me motivation to get my work done.

College of Business Student Ambassadors are a select group of business majors who have been chosen to represent the college with prospective students and their families. Throughout the year, ambassadors share their experience with individuals through daily visits and Undergraduate Admissions visitor programs.
