Maggie McGonagle shares her academic journey and experience at OHIO

By Meghan Morris

Name: Maggie McGonagle

Majors: Management & Strategic Leadership

Class year: 2019

Hometown: Granville, Ohio

Our 2018-19 College of Business Ambassadors share stories about how the college has supported them throughout their academic journey. This week, we connected with Maggie McGonagle, a second-year ambassador.

Maggie McGonagle changed her major within the College of Business during her junior year when an internship made her realize she was going down the wrong career path.

“I knew that I wanted to work with people, so I decided to start pursuing HR roles,” she said. “After college I hope to work in either recruiting or training and development.”

She became a COB ambassador because she wanted to share her academic journey and how much she has grown both personally and professionally.

“I am passionate about being able to share with others the steps that I have taken to reach my goals and give advice on how others can make the most of their college experience,” McGonagle said.

McGonagle enjoys helping prospective students decide to come to Ohio University. During visits with high school students, she tells them about everything the College of Business has to offer and it often sways them.

She wants freshman to try out anything and everything that interests them because getting more experiences will definitely help in the future. But most importantly, they should build relationships with professors, student leaders and classmates.

Below, Maggie McGonagle answers a few questions relating to her experiences on campus:

What extracurricular activities do you participate in?

I am the treasurer of the Society for Human Resources Management, the Head of Recruitment for the Derivatives Management Group, and I am a mentor for a new group on campus called Women in Finance.

What is one fun fact about you?

I am a third generation bobcat. My parents met here and so did my mom's parents. Lots of Bobcat pride in my family!

What’s your favorite spot on campus to study?

I love to study at Court Street Coffee. I can put my headphones in and go to work for hours, but also pop in and out of Copeland Hall as needed.

College of Business Student Ambassadors are a select group of business majors who have been chosen to represent the college with prospective students and their families. Throughout the year, ambassadors share their experience with individuals through daily visits and Undergraduate Admissions visitor programs.
