The Ohio University College of Business is proud to announce that two graduate students, MBA/MSA candidates Becca Hemby and Nick Smith, have been selected by the National Collegiate Athletic Association to attend the annual NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar held from Jan. 28 through 30, 2015 in Indianapolis, Indiana.

The Emerging Leaders Seminar is an annual professional development event that provides leadership, education, and transitional programing for 200 selected participants who seek a career in intercollegiate athletics.  These 200 individuals will have the opportunity to identify and network with key professionals in college athletics and gain skills and knowledge to help them succeed in successful collegiate athletics professionals.

“It is an honor to represent Ohio University on a national stage,” explained Hemby. “This seminar will allow me to learn from and build relationships with peers and experienced professionals. I’m looking forward to being able to apply what I learn to my own career progression.”

Classmate Nick Smith also expressed excitement with the opportunity to attend the seminar next month.

“It’s truly humbling to be selected to attend the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar, and I cannot wait for the chance to learn more about this competitive field,” said Smith. “This conference will help me develop valuable leadership skills both personally and professionally.”

Jim Kahler, executive director of the Center for Sports Administration in the College of Business, explained how important opportunities like these are for a student’s professional development.

“We are proud that Nick and Becca were chosen to attend the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar. It’s an indication of the excellence of our students and program that we have two students selected to participate,” said Kahler. “Applications are solicited from more than 1,200 schools and NCAA affiliated organizations.  This is just another example of the natural extension of our curriculum outside of the traditional classroom at Ohio University’s College of Business for professional and leadership development.”
