Founded in 2005, the Ohio University Student Fixed Income Management Group manages a $2.8 million portfolio of fixed income securities. The group reserves $1.4 million of these funds for socially responsible investments. SFIMG gives students exposure to the fixed income market during their college career. Members use Bloomberg terminals to research prospective investments and analyze trends, and conduct conference calls with investment professionals.
SFIMG only invests in investment-grade debt instruments. This means it invests only in agency mortgage backed securities intuitively backed by the federal government, and corporate bonds from a variety of sectors with a rating of no less than Baa3/BBB-/BBB-. This investment strategy encourages diversity and minimizes risk of credit events.
The group strives for long-term, stable growth of capital and future cash flows through selective asset analysis.
