ALEXIS'S QUICK BIO
What is your hometown?
I am from Upper Arlington in Columbus, OH.
When did you start your college search?
I began my official college search in the fall of my senior year of high school.
How did you find Ohio University?
Being from Columbus, I knew about Ohio University throughout high school. However, I learned much more about it when people from my high school started to attend OU. I also learned a lot more when I researched the College of Business.
What do you remember from your college visit?
A few of my initial memories included how beautiful the campus was and how genuine the people were that I met during the visit.
Why did you choose OU?
By the end of my college search, I was between Ohio University and Ohio State. There were a few deciding factors that made me choose OU. One reason was something that a student In the COB said to me on my second visit to Ohio University that stuck with me. He said, "what's great about Ohio University is that it's a big school where you constantly have the opportunity to meet new people. At the same time, the COB makes a big school feel so much smaller. You get the perks of a big school, with the education and resources of a small school. Your professors all know you, and you know all the students around you". This statement made me realize that Ohio University was the place for me. The people, the campus, and the opportunities available were what helped solidify my decision and I haven't looked back since.
THE COB & ATHENS
What are you studying? How did you come to that?
I am a double major in Marketing and Business Analytics. My classes throughout my first year helped me come to my decision; I took a sales class that piqued my interest in Marketing and then I took my first Excel course that made me realize how much I liked analyzing data to help make informed decisions which brought me to adding Analytics as a co-major.
Reflect on your Cluster experience.
I learned more about myself and how I operate during my semester in Cluster than any other semester in College. While I surely complained about the work while I was doing it, I look back and see how much I learned from the valuable real-world experience. It was overall a very positive experience and helped me grow immensely in a matter of weeks.
How else are you involved on campus?
On-campus I am heavily involved in the Schey Sales Centre where I hold the position VP of Collaborations. I am also a fellow in the Consumer Research Center, where I work on projects revolving around market research for live clients. Finally, I am a part of the Select Leadership Development Program, where I am able to fine-tune my leadership skills through self-assessments and mentorship.
What do you want to do after graduation?
I am still trying to figure out what I would like to do career-wise, post-graduation but I have an interest in sales and consulting.
Share about your advisor? Your Career Coach?
My advisor is Dr. Frost who helps lead the Honors Tutorial College-side of my COB education, and he has been a wonderful mentor and resource to me. I also look to many of my past professors who have been mentors to me and am always amazed by how willing to help the faculty in the COB are.
Favorite campus landmark? Place to study? Place to eat? Coffee?
My favorite campus landmark is the Athens bike path because of how pretty it is, and I often go for runs there. My favorite place to study is the 5th floor of the library or Donkey Coffee. The best food in Athens is Courtside Pizza, with no debate. My favorite coffee would have to be either Donkey Coffee or Court Street Coffee.
What is your favorite thing about Athens, Ohio?
The people. The students and faculty are among the most genuine people I’ve met in my life. There’s something about the environment that is hard to explain until you see it yourself.
If you had to shadow one person for an entire month, who would it be?
Would you rather have a rewind button or a pause button on your life, why?
Pause button. Time flies by and it’s hard to make time to reflect. I wouldn’t want to rewind because I don’t regret anything; I just wish some moments lasted longer.
If you could live in any sitcom, which one would it be and why?
Friends. Who wouldn’t want to live in a penthouse with all their close friends and be as fun-loving as the cast from Friends?
If you can instantly become an expert in something, what would it be?
If you could visit any place in the world where would it be and why?
Dubai because of how unique and different it is from anywhere I have ever been.
Favorite season and why?
Summer – the heat, campfires, lakes, and memories associated.
Favorite genre of music?
Rap or Country
Favorite music artist?
One for each of my favorite genres: Jack Johnson, Drake, and Zac Brown Band.
What is one thing you can’t live without?
Pizza. And my dog.
Do you have a celebrity look alike?
I’ve received from some people that I look like Jennifer Lawrence.
What TV show would you guest star in?
What are your hobbies?
Running, being with family, walking my dog, doing anything sporty outdoors (snowboarding, waterskiing, etc.), watching sunsets.
